Due to his health, Canon Sharkey approached the Archbishop a few weeks ago to express his desire to step down as Parish Priest of St Margaret’s and Our Holy Redeemer’s Parishes – in order to rest and recuperate. In response to Canon Sharkey’s decision, the Archbishop has appointed Father Boyle, the Parish Priest of St Eunan’s, to also be the Administrator of St Margaret’s and Our Holy Redeemer’s Parishes. In addition, the Archbishop has appointed Father Greg Zungdet to be the Assistant Priest in St Margaret’s, Our Holy Redeemer’s and St Eunan’s. Although the changes took place some time ago, it was felt by the Archbishop and Father Boyle that we had to respect Canon Sharkey’s wish to step down quietly after the celebration of the First Reconciliation last week. Canon Sharkey’s health was at the heart of that decision. Please remember Canon Gerald in your prayers, that he will quickly be restored to health and return to active ministry within the Archdiocese of Glasgow.
Today is the Fifth Sunday of Lent – today’s readings give us two ways of getting to know Jesus: Jeremiah’s way is through the clearing away of sin in a renewed Covenant-relationship. Jesus’ way is for us to look upon him when he becomes “lifted up” in glory (or “strung up” on a gibbet… John’s pun).
Annual SCIAF Collection – last week raised a total of £995.00. We thank you for your generosity to this collection.
Stations of the Cross during Lent – on Friday night 7.45pm at St Margaret’s Church and on Sundays during Lent 4.00pm at Our Holy Redeemer’s Church.
Florists Needed – if anyone would like to assist the regular florists in the parishes please contact Fr Boyle or Deacon Frank.
Second Collections during Lent – they are to support the Sick and Retired Priests Fund, except on the Fourth Sunday of Lent, which is the annual collection which supports SCIAF.
Confession at OHR – after the recent survey, all Confessional boxes in Our Holy Redeemer’s are out of use for the time being. Confessions in Our Holy Redeemer’s will be held in the corridor leading to the sacristy.
Big Happy Noise Choir – FireCloud’s 'Big Happy Noise' choir starts back for 2024. Come along if you would like to try out choir singing in a fun, informal way. Absolutely no experience necessary. Come any Thursday evening to Our Holy Redeemer Church Hall, Clydebank, 7.30pm-8.30pm. All welcome!
Take a copy home, and why not deliver one to a friend or relative who no longer goes to Mass? Online edition at www.flourishnewspaper.co.uk
Lentfest – has much to offer this weekend with a series of shows, events and a powerful exhibition. Among the highlights is a two person show on similar themes. Stained glass artist, Lorraine Lamond presents a series of paintings and drawings on the theme of the Crucifixion and Resurrection, whilst painter Anne Devine explores themes related to the patterns of life, death and transformation. More information: www.agap.org.uk/lentfest/
200 Club – winners: 1st Prize, No 138, J Hood; 2nd Prize, No 26, P McConnell.
